Heated Versus Purged Viewports

Comparison Photo of the “Hot Lens” vs. “Purged Window”

Heated Versus Purged Viewports

Standard Purged Window

Looking through a cool viewing window into an operating Claus Thermal Reactor. Note that sulphur has precipitated onto the viewing window in spite of the air purge. The sulfur particles block infrared radiation.

Heated Versus Purged Viewports

Delta Heated Lens Window

View through the HIR Infrared transmitter viewing port into an operating Claus Thermal Reactor. Note that the infrared transmitter’s sight path has remained clear in the Delta Controls’ steam jacketed lens assembly. Maintaining the high temperature keeps the sulphur from precipitating onto the lens surface, causing reading errors, and requiring maintenance.
