Model 104Features

Application

The Delta Controls Model 104 probe type control switches when a conductive material touches the tip of the sensing probe. More of the sensing probe must be covered when the material is insulating and has a lower dielectric constant. The Delta Controls Model 104 will sense the level or presence of almost any sort of material, even insulators which have a low density and a low dielectric constant.

The unit is designed to detect high or low levels of liquids, slurries and solids. It is designed for mounting on the top of a tank, container, or open pit for high level detection. It is intended that the sensing probe extend down from the top to the point at which level switching is to occur. The unit can also be mounted so that its sensing probe extends in from the side of the container. This side mounting position should be limited to clean liquids and solids applications. Top mounted probes should be used for slurries and most typical tanks.

The sensed material may be conductive (water,acid, caustic) or nonconductive (oil, wheat, gasoline). The dielectric constant of the material should be 2.0 or higher. All water based compounds, most medium weight hydrocarbons (ammonia, crude oil, fuel oil, lube grease) and most solids (wheat, gravel, talc) meet this requirement.

Operation and Features

The Delta Controls Model 104 is insensitive to buildup on the tip of its sensing probe. The deposited buildup material can be wet, sticky, or even an insulator. Recalibration or cleaning may be required under conditions such as extreme candeling, glacial salt bridging, etc. Radio frequency technology is the basis for this new and improved level control design. An advanced sensing method, using pulsed radio frequency waves, is the heart of this new circuit technique. This method produces excellent stability and good accuracy. False switching problems have essentially been eliminated by this design. High speed filtering and noise rejection provide highly reliable level detection and switching. Fail-safe relay action is selected with a gold contact plug. The relay can be normally energized or normally de-energized as required by the application.
